Designing Learning Experiences That Change the World

Our Challenges

What do smart students do?

(A) Get the right answers
(B) Follow the strategies
(C) Get the highest grades on the tests
(D) All of the above

Now, what do smart people do?

(A) Ask the right questions
(B) Create the strategies for others to follow
(C) Make the highest contributions to their communities
(D) All of the above

Notice the mismatch between smart students and smart people?

“WHAT MATTERS LESS ARE BRIEF STINTS OF SERVICE RATHER THAN THE KIND OF PERSON YOU ARE IN YOUR COMMUNITY AND YOUR SCHOOL EVERY DAY.”

~Richard Weissbourd, Harvard University School of Education

Our Programs

The ELSA Institute offers an unparalleled quality of training for students, teachers, and other users in the education landscape of China. At the heart of ELSA is the idea that each person has unique strengths and skills to contribute in a given team or community, and that by interacting across different teams and communities, we can improve our collective intelligence and create a better world for everyone.

Our Methodology

In traditional education models, the teacher stands at the front of the classroom and directs the students, while the students sit quietly, listen, and take notes. In the ELSA model, the students direct the exchange of information and ideas in the classroom, while the trainer merely guides them from the sidelines. By taking ownership through activities that emphasize collaboration and competition, students gain motivation, curiosity, passion, confidence, and kindness.
